i posted this comment after yours, but maybe you wont be back, so just as an fyi:
usually it has to do with the code used to build the page, most translates about the same, but some things are meant to display a specific way in specific browsers, and some are done intentionally to look wrong or not work in other browsers
(microsoft/msn are notoriously bad about this, and though they dont make theyre pages not load at all anymore they still are constantly adding things to make them look wierd: for example hotmail does that. they also in a recent win update removed two .dll files that allow embedded win media players to play in firefox, but hte .dll's are easily reinstalled)
sometimes it also has to do w. plugins as well. you can get plugins and extensions from mozilla to modify and fix all kinds of stuff. there's also in ie tab extension that allows you to open a page in an ie tab in firefox to see what it looks like without having to actually open ie. its pretty badass ; )
